This feature is a godsend for composite work. The Refine Radius tool expand the selection to include any additional frayed elements of the image and upon releasing the mouse button, Elements removes the background. After defining a selection, users can choose Select> Refine Edge to open the Refine Edge dialog box and access a bevy of options to refine the election. Version 11 now includes a much-improved Refine Edge feature that borrows from Photoshop. If desired, employ the Customer Workspace option from the More menu to revert to Elements’ old setup.Īdditional interface changes throughout version 11 range from a new blue outline when selecting layers, for instance, to an Open button in the top-left corner for quickly accessing recent files. Buttons located at the bottom of the screen allow for switching between Layers, Effects, etc., while a More button further opens a second category of panels, which includes Histogram, History, etc., into a floating, non-anchoring window. On the right side of the basic/default workspace, users will now only see a single panel at a time that no longer launches into separate windows. Panels are even different in the new layout. The new Tool Options panel is also able to hide. Adobe removed click-to-view submenus of related tools, but users could press the tool’s keyboard shortcut to browse them. It is now a more prominent Options panel, located near the bottom of the window, where users will also notice a group of tools like Magnetic Lasso tool and Rectangle. The Options Bar, for instance, previously sat above the image window. Adobe also simplified the visual aspects with larger icons and buttons, improved text legibility, and a reorganized layout. The most obvious change in version 11 is the completely revamped Editor user-interface the light-gray look clearly mimics older-version Elements. Amazon’s pre-order guarantee, however, cuts $10 off each price tag for both the standalone and bundled versions. A bundled option, featuring Adobe’s consumer video editor Premiere Elements 11 (review below), is also available for $149.99. Photoshop Elements 11 costs $99.99, but users could upgrade from a previous version for $79.99. Adobe Photoshop Touch updated with Retina support, images up to 12 mp ().Apps & updates: Wild Blood, AutoCad WS, Adobe Photoshop Express, more ().Photoshop/Lightroom will get Retina update this Fall says Adobe ().Adobe announces Photoshop and Premiere Elements 11 with improved UI, tools ().The Organise feature - which helps to categorise by name, face, place, date and other options - now also includes geotagging via Google Maps (though you'll need an internet connection to be able to make the most of the mode). Not bad for less than £100.Įlements 11 even goes as far as pulling the Refine Edge mode from Photoshop CS5 into the latest software - ideal for selecting complex outlines such as hair. When in the Expert mode it's possible to see and adjust the masks that these edits create, which brings a level of control that's just shy of what's available with Photoshop. Tilt/Shift, High/Low Key, (enhanced) Vignette, and many other modes have also been added. But there's no share to Twitter or iPad (at least in the version we saw) which seems a little strange. Guided Edits help make the process of adjustment easier, while a variety of "share to" options that includes Vimeo, Facebook, mobile devices any many more front the features list. That aspect and a stronger focus on online social sharing are the main themes of the latest version, though the core pillars - Organise, Edit, Create and Share - remain the same.
